Call for Participation "Young Researchers' Award 2016" of the Spanish Clay Society.


This award has been established and financed by the Spanish Clay Society.

  1. The work presented for the award must be given at the SEA annual meeting on September 5-7 in Madrid.

  3. The applicant must be a researcher who has not attained a PhD at the time of formally registering for the meeting. He or she must also be the first author of the communication presented for the award. The applicant shall indicate his or her intention of participating on the meeting registration form. The communication shall be presented as a poster. At the start of the meeting, a printed copy of the poster shall be delivered.
  4. The jury shall be formed at the start of the meeting and will comprise the society president (or duly assigned delegate) and a member of the Executive Committee. They may not be co-authors of any of the papers presented for the awards.
  5. Two awards shall be presented at each annual meeting, worth €300 each. The announcement of the decisions and the awards ceremony will take place at the closing ceremony of the September 2016 meeting.



III Scientific Photography Contest on Clays


The Spanish Clay Society (SEA) announces the II Scientific Photography Contest on Clays with the aim of broadening knowledge of clay science and technology.

  1. Participants
    Participation in this contest is open to anyone interested in clays and presupposes full acceptance of these rules and acceptance of the decisions made by the jury and the organization.

  2. Entry
    Each participant may enter as many photographs as desired in the contest. The photographs must be original and free of any rights held by third parties. Participants must have taken the photographs and confirm their originality, stating they are the photographer's and allowing their use.

    Photographs shall be presented in digital format and accompanied by a caption (we recommend a TIFF or JPG format, a minimum size of 1280 x 1024 pixels, and no more than 5 MB in size).

    Photos must be sent by e-mail as attachments or with a link to the following address: secretaria@sea-arcillas.es. The subject matter should be "contest". Send each photograph for entry separately. The message body should contain the following:
    • Material sent for the I SCIENTIFIC PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST ON CLAYS in accordance with the rules published on the SEA website (http://www.sea-arcillas.es/).
    • Title of photograph.
    • Personal data: complete name, e-mail, telephone number.
    Once the information is received, an e-mail will be sent out confirming reception of the photograph(s).

    The SEA secretary will ensure participants remain anonymous during the jury process by labelling each photo with a submission number to identify the material with the jury.

  3. Entry deadline
    Photographs may be entered (via e-mail) starting July 31 of 2016.

  4. Publication of photographs
    The jury will select the photographs to be posted in the "Graphic gallery" section of the SEA's web page in accordance with the purpose of promoting science and disseminating clay research. The photographs selected will be posted with the title and the photographer's name.

  5. Prizes
    On the jury's recommendation, the organization shall award two (2) prizes. Each prize shall consist of 150 € and a certificate to be presented to the winners (or duly appointed delegate) at the closing ceremony of the Scientific Session the SEA will hold on September 5-7 in Madrid or sent to the winner's address. If the prize is to be sent to the winner's address, the organization shall only incur the cost of mailing by regular post.

  6. Jury
    The jury shall comprise at least three members. The members shall be announced at the awards ceremony. The jury shall select the prize-winning photographs by a simple majority vote of its members. The decision shall be final and shall be announced prior to the presentation of the prizes on the SEA's web page.

    The jury may also declare the prize to be vacant. Any circumstance not foreseen in these rules shall be resolved by the jury.



Call for Participation "Initiation to Clay Studies Award 2016" of the Spanish Clay Society


This award has been established and financed by the Spanish Clay Society.

  1. The awards shall be given for Master's theses on subjects related to clays.
  2. Applicants must have defended and passed the Master's thesis that is presented for the award between September 3 of 2014 and July 30 of 2016.
  3. An electronic version of the complete text of the Master's thesis must be sent to the address secretaria@sea-arcillas.es. The deadline is July 30 of 2016. You must also provide the number of credits and appropriate standards for the Master's as regards the length of the text.
  4. The jury shall consist of the president, vice president, and secretary of the SEA. If any of these supervised any of the Master's theses presented for the award, he or she shall be substituted by another member of the Executive Committee.
  5. One award shall be given, worth €200. The announcement of the decision and the awards ceremony will take place at the closing ceremony of the September 5-7 2016 meeting.

The Martin Vivaldi Award


The Martín Vivaldi Award is an European award, sponsored by the European Clay Groups Association (ECGA) that was established and is financially supported by the Sociedad Española de Arcillas (SEA), to offer financial assistance to the recipient member of the ECGA that enable him or her to participate in an EUROCLAY Meeting for the purpose of presenting his or her paper.

General Rules

  1. The objective of this award is to offer financial assistance to the recipient to enable him or her to participate in an Euroclay Conference for the purpose of presenting his or her paper.
  2. Candidates must submit an electronic copy of a paper in English on a topic relevant to one of the sessions of the Meeting. Assessment will be the scientific content only and the winner will be expected to present his/her paper at the Meeting.
  3. The award consists of a honorarium to contribute to the recipient to cover the expenses of the registration fee to the Meeting, travel and hotel expenses for attending the Euroclay Meeting, and a certificate.
  4. Person eligible for the award must be under 35 years of age and belong to an European National Group affiliated to the ECGA on the closing date for submissions.        
  5. The selection committee will consist of the President of ECGA (Chair), three members nominated by the ECGA Council, and the President of the Spanish Clay Society, who will act as Secretary.
  6. The candidates must note that the deadline will be strictly observed.
  7. The winning paper must be submitted for publication in the Proceedings of the EUROCLAY Conference.
