Both awards are subsidized by the SEA and are intended for researchers who are already at the doctoral stage or at the beginning of their postdoctoral stage. Researchers may not apply for other awards at the same time. Given that, on this occasion, the two calls coincide and that the jury will be the same for both, joint participation for both awards will be considered. The jury will ensure that the diversity of topics covered in the submitted works is considered, in the areas of Clay Geology or Materials Science, always understood in a broad sense and respecting the principle of interdisciplinarity. It will be considered that the JMS award, on this occasion, is the accessit to the Martín Vivaldi award.
Purpose of the Martín Vivaldi Award
The Martín Vivaldi Award is an international prize sponsored by the Association Internationale pour l’Étude des Argiles (AIPEA) and funded by the Spanish Clay Society (SEA) to provide financial support for the recipient’s attendance at the CLAY 2027 Conference, which will be held in Madrid (20th-26th June 2027), and to present an oral communication at this meeting.
The deadline for the receipt of manuscripts is the 18th of December of 2026.
Rules of the Martín Vivaldi Award
- Candidates must complete the application form and send it together with an electronic copy—preferably in PDF format—of a manuscript on a topic relevant to the field of clays, to participate in one of the conference sessions. The manuscript must be written in a format suitable for an international journal. The evaluation will be based solely on the scientific content, and the winner will be required to present their contribution at the meeting.
- The award consists of €1,000 (one thousand euros) to contribute to the registration, travel, and accommodation expenses of the recipient during their attendance to CLAY2027, as well as a winner’s certificate. The award may be declared void if the jury considers that the candidates do not meet the required standard.
- The recipient of this award must be under 35 years of age or within 5 years of the date of their PhD defense, as of the submission deadline. Applicants who exceed these limits due to circumstances such as maternity/paternity leave, pregnancy, illness, or family care leave must indicate this in their application for consideration. There are no restrictions regarding nationality.
- The award is incompatible with any other prize received for the same work. Therefore, the candidate must declare that the manuscript is original and has not been submitted elsewhere. If awarded, it will not be submitted for any other prize.
- The jury will consist of the President of the AIPEA (Chair), the President of the SEA (Secretary), and three members appointed by the SEA.
- The application form must be sent to the SEA Secretariat (secretaria@sea-arcillas.es) with a copy to the general email address of the Spanish Clay Society (sea@sea-arcillas.es) before the submission deadline. Candidates should note that the deadline will be strictly enforced.
- The award winner may submit the manuscript for publication in a clay mineralogy journal.
